about

"I find it fascinating how sometimes music can transcends the medium that it is performed in. The music surpasses the individual instrumentation and methodology that has been used to generate the sounds that are present on the album. It is a rare phenomenon that only occurs a handful of times per year. In the case of Kunisaki’s second album Ghosts, the instrumentation is purely synthetic - computer made. The music execution and arrangements of those notes and instrumentation makes the music transcend its electronic medium to create something that moves well beyond the limitations often imposed by this type of music. What does that mean exactly? The music creates this allure that is often, if not exclusively found within acoustic instrumentation. There is this depth and warmth to these tracks that just draws me in, much like a beautiful piano piece played to the illumination of a nearby fireplace. The music does not feel electronic, it feels organic, it feels natural. While listening to this album, it is all too easy to get lost in its clutches. I often find myself putting the entire album on repeat for hours on end as I travel through empty streets early in the morning. Tracks such as Watching the Universe, Fluorescence, and Dissociation should all give an idea of what the soundscapes present on Ghosts are. The music is expansive, visual, yet reflective. There are seldom beats or overt melodies present - yet when they are utilized they are done so to amplify the musical experience rather than dominate it. The album simply requires the listener to sit back and reflect - take in the world, and revel in its glory. This is an enthralling album, one that has truly moved beyond the limitations of electronic music, and evolved into something all its own."
